6 Acronyms for Spiritual Growth


The restored gospel of Jesus Christ has one purpose; “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” Everything within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints works towards that purpose in one way or another, from living prophets and renewal of covenants to ward camp outs and potlucks. As a logophile, or lover of words, I can't help but appreciate how even acronyms have become a useful tool in this divine mission. Here are 6 helpful acronyms to make use of in the pursuit of spiritual growth. 




A.S.A.P.  (Always Say A Prayer)
Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.D&C 10:5


CTR (Choose the right)
 "Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life." 2 Nephi 10:23



GROW (Greet, Read, Observe, Write)
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." John 5: 39


JOY (Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last)
"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love they neighbour as thyself." Matthew 22:36-39


SMILE (Spiritually Minded is Life Eternal)
"O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal". 2 Nephi 9:39


ETTE (Endure to the End)

 "And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God." D&C 14:7
